There is nothing I enjoy on a cold day like a cup of piping hot tea. The hot liquid not only warms every inch of my body, but it soothes my very soul. Everything just seems a little better.
Why not have a warm beverage for a signature drink at your wedding or next wintry event? Signature drinks are a perfect way to infuse personality into your wedding. Did you have a favourite childhood drink? Or maybe you and your partner have a drink that you both enjoy, might have been something you discovered on vacation or even at home. Whatever it is, kick it up a notch, using pretty garnish, cool glasses/cups and you’ve got yourself an awesome signature drink.
Here’s one I found on Martha Stewart Weddings. It’s perfect, you can serve with or without the bourbon or dark rum and it’s just as yummy.
Hot Apple Cider with Sugared Cranberries
2 1/4 cups apple cider
2 whole allspice berries
3 ounces bourbon or dark rum
Bring cider and allspice to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat and cover. Let stand 10 minutes. Skim foam and strain, discarding the allspice. Ladle 1/2 cup hot cider into each mug, and add 3/4 ounce bourbon or dark rum. Garnish each glass with two sugared cranberries skewered on a stir stick.
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
2 cups fresh cranberries
3/4 cup fine sanding sugar
1. Combine sugar and water in a small pan and bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes. Place the cranberries in a bowl and pour the syrup over the top. Let cool completely, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight.
2. Drain cranberries in a colander over a bowl, reserving the syrup for another use. Place sanding sugar in a shallow dish. Add the cranberries in batches, rolling to coat with sugar. Spread sugared cranberries in a single layer on a baking sheet; let stand at room temperature until dry, about 1 hour.
