Meghan and Harry – My Favourite Moments

ALL POSTS, PLANNING May 23, 2018

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”

In case you’ve been living under a rock I’m sure by now you’ve seen the entire royal wedding or at least massive amounts of reruns and commentary; every detail dissected within an inch of life. I’ll admit I wasn’t overly excited about this wedding, but I was completely sucked in on Saturday. While I did not wake up at 4:00 am to watch the wedding it was the first thing I turned on once I woke up. There was so much controversy and family drama that seemed to plague this wedding, but what wedding doesn’t have a few of those moments, guys they’re just like us … well sort of.  There is something so magical when two people who love each other get married, I’m always a supporter of love and happily ever after.

This wedding was unlike any royal wedding I am aware of, so nontraditional in a society that lives by copious amounts of tradition and protocol. In my opinion, it was thoughtfully planned for two people who wanted to have their say while still respecting traditions. (If I haven’t said this before I am a fan of tradition, not all  traditions and only when it makes sense for the two people getting married.) Here are some of the moments that stood out to me in no particular order.

1.The Veil – have you ever seen anything so magnificent? Meghan’s cathedral length veil represented a special connection to the Commonwealth. The veil was made of silk tulle and featured a trim of hand embroidered flowers from each of the 53 counties in the Commonwealth in threads and organza. In true Meghan fashion, she added the Wintersweet which grows in the grounds of Kensington Palace in front of Nottingham Cottage and the California Poppy, an ode to our Cali girl. While Meghan’s look was overall understated, the veil brought the drama and elevated the whole look.

2. The Floral Installation – while there wasn’t an abundance of florals at the church, instead a lot of greenery was used and again, everything quite understated. Even Meghan’s bouquet left many of my colleagues underwhelmed as it did me, however once I heard the significance of the flowers chosen and that Harry picked some the ingredients himself I quickly changed my mind. I love thoughtful and sentimental gesture above aesthetics. I digress,  the floral installation outside the church was the show stopper. I often tell my clients there should be one showstopping piece, something that stands out and dramatic and this installation did just that, kudos to the designer.

3. The Reception Looks – while I wasn’t a huge fan of the ceremony dress, the dress in itself was beautiful, I love the simplicity and the neckline, I didn’t think the fit was perfect. However, I thought they nailed the reception looks, I LOVED it! Elegant, sophisticated and timeless, I could go on, guys this is how you do understated. I truly believe less is more, in weddings and in life in general.

The more I analyzed Megan’s and Harry’s wedding the more I see values and beliefs I hold dear and for that reason this wedding goes down as one of my favourites. Congratulations to the happy couple!
